E-BOOK REVOLUTION – ELECTRONIC PAPER DISPLAY

I have to say the pace of technological change continues to move on at breakneck speed.

The latest technological breakthrough is courtesy of LG: in April we will apparently be able to read our e-books on electronic paper.

The Korean company started experimenting with flexible electronic pages a couple of years ago, producing a prototype newspaper.

It has now just announced the mass production of its first e-paper display. Its device is said to deliver a paper-like reading experience thanks to a plastic “screen” which is as slim as mobile phone protection film, and is flexible enough to allow the reader to bend it at a range of 40 degrees from the centre of the screen. It is also 0.7mm thin and weighs just 14 grams.

LG has also addressed the issue of durability by undertaking repeated drop tests from heights of 1.5m without incurring any scratches or breakage.

The e-readers will be manufactured in China and released in Europe at the beginning of next month.
