It’s the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee here in the UK, and I’m taking the opportunity to disappear for a few days. Before I go this is for all you musical theatre lovers out there.
I pass the Queen’s Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue every morning on my way into work and every morning I see the sign telling me that over 60 million people around the globe have now watched Les Miserables on stage.
On the back of 25 years of success, Tom Hooper is directing the film version with a star-studded cast including UA’s Eddie Redmayne and Samantha Barks which will be released in time for Christmas.
At the risk of being guillotined, I have to admit I have never seen the stage version but the first teaser trailer looks like the film will definitely be an enormous success and I expect I will be there in the cinema with the hundreds of millions of other viewers … although I won’t be one of those singing along.
Here’s the trailer with tantalising glimpses of Eddie and Samantha (who fabulously won the part of Eponine from such contenders as Taylor Swift, Lea Michele and Scarlett Johansson.
