Well it’s Friday and I discovered something today which I really want to have a go with.
The world of technology has some weird and wonderful inventions lurking in dark corners, and here is definitely one of them:
Makey Makey allows you to turn everyday objects into touchpads to control webpages and computer games. The system consists of a ‘makey makey’ board, a set of alligator clips, and a USB cable and it works with any computer programme or webpage that would normally be controlled by a keyboard or mouse.
You can use anything – including bananas, coins, play-doh or even ordinary pencil drawings to function as your controls.
Apparently any electricity-conducting material will work (insulating materials need only be rubbed with food or water, or topped with copper tape, to become conductive enough to function). An alligator clip is applied to each object on one side, and to the ‘makey makey’ control board on the other, connecting to the computer or laptop via USB.
Users specify what function each input object should have based on what slot they clip it to on the ‘makey makey’ board (for example, left, right, spacebar, click).
Have a look at their video to see just what is possible (I think I like the piano stairs best):
Some people out there just have too much time on their hands!
